Congressman Owens and UTA to officially kickoff construction of Midvalley Express

WHAT: The Utah Transit Authority will officially kick off construction of the much-anticipated Midvalley Express (MVX) on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Murray Central Station. MVX will be the third all-electric Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route in the UTA system. Like the immensely popular Utah Valley Express (UVX) in Utah County and Ogden Express (OGX) in Weber County, the MVX uses dedicated bus lanes and signal prioritization to combine the capacity, frequency and speed of light rail with the lower construction cost of a bus system. MVX will connect riders with local destinations like Salt Lake Community College and the Maverick Center, and planned developments through Murray, Taylorsville, and West Valley City.

MVX’s $100 million construction price tag includes nearly 65% funding from the Federal Transit Administration, as well as state support and local land donations. MVX will begin operations in Fall 2026 and be Zero Fare for its first five years thanks to a federal grant.
