After 20 years of planning and more than two years of construction, UTA’s Ogden Express (OGX) will begin offering full service this Sunday, August 20, on August Change Day.
UTA constantly reviews and updates ridership patterns throughout its service areas. Based on those evaluations, UTA then adjusts its service across the region three times each year in April, August, and December. These adjustments are also based on evolving community needs, and feedback received from the general public.
OGX, UTA’s newest Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system combines the capacity and speed of light rail with the lower cost construction of a bus system. Dedicated lanes and signal priority allow riders to reach their destinations quickly. Ogden Express (formerly Route 603) offers riders Zero fare for three years. Its electric buses run from Ogden Central Station, through downtown, to The Junction, along dedicated bus lanes in the center of
Harrison Boulevard, through the Weber State University campus, and on to McKay-Dee Hospital. Riders will be able to catch the bus every 10-15 minutes on weekdays and 15-30 minutes on weekends. Sunday’s Change Day also marks a major transition for TRAX and S-Line service in Salt Lake City. Each will offer 15-minute frequency on Saturdays that is already available Monday-Friday.
Also of note for UTA riders as August Change Day approaches are the long-term detours that still exist on routes 1, 2, 4, 9, 205, 209, and 220 in Downtown Salt Lake City. The detours are due to ongoing construction on 200 South.
